Flowers for Algernon & Irony

Hello All-

Mrs. Tkacz and I will be coteaching this week as she prepares to take over full responsibility of the class. We are reading the classic piece "Flowers for Algernon," and using it to examine the difference between situational irony and dramatic irony. If you have any questions or want to get involved, email me at jsmith49@scsd.us.

Grammar Week Wrapup

Hello-

Just to check back in, we will be finishing our grammar unit this week. We have worked to develop a progression in class; we have examined words, specifically prefixes, suffixes, and roots. From there, we moved to the subject and predicate of sentences, as well as run-ons and fragments. Now, we are looking at topic sentences, support sentences and details, and concluding sentences. Finally, we will examine how to construct an expository essay.

Also, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce our student teacher, Mrs. Tkacz. She is a graduate student from Syracuse University. She will be with us until Thanksgiving, and she will assume all responsibilities for the month of October. Feel free to talk to her at open house.

That is all for now. Email me at jsmith49@scsd.us with questions, comments, or just to chat. Thanks!
